Maurice Flowers

Maurice Flowers enters his first season as Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach for the Delta Devils. He spent last season at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Fayetteville State team won the 2017 CIAA Southern Division and advanced to the CIAA Championship game for the first time since 2009. In his first season directing the Fayetteville State offense, he helped the unit go from near the bottom of the CIAA in production, to one of the tops in the conference.

Flowers' offense had three players selected All-CIAA (TB Stevie Green, OL Tyreek Bailey, OL Greg Brooks), earned the CIAA Offensive Rookie of the Year (TB Donshell Jetton) and CIAA Rookie Team players (QB Richard Latimer, WR Bruce Davis).

Flowers spent two productive years at Miles College as Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks Coach, capturing the 2015 SIAC Championship. His offense placed four players on the All SIAC Team (QB David Whipple, TB JaMarcus Nance, OL Terrance Owens, OL Chris Ruffin). Flowers had a brief stint as Quarterback Coach at FCS Campbell University before returning to Miles at the start of the ’16 season.

He has over 20 years of coaching experience as a Head Coach on the high school level and Offensive Coordinator on the collegiate level. A native of South Bend, Indiana, Flowers has lived and coached all over the country. He spent the early part of his career, coaching high school in the Metroplex of Dallas, Texas. He returned to the Carolinas as a head coach at two high schools in North Carolina (Olympic and West Charlotte) and one school in South Carolina (Chester).

During his high school coaching career, Flowers coached in some of the biggest games these three tradition rich football states (Texas, North Carolina and South Carolina) could play, from playoffs to State Championship games. In 10 years as a high school head coach, Flowers has helped produce conference championship teams, numerous All Conference, All State and All Star selections. He also coached more than 50 players to earning college scholarships. Flowers is also one of the few football coaches in North and South Carolina to coach players selected to the Shrine Bowl for both states.

In his only season as Head Coach at West Charlotte  HS he led the team to the state semi-finals and had the 2007 North Carolina Associated Press Player of the Year in Quarterback Darius Thomas. As Head Coach at Chester HS his team reached the 2008 state championship game, led by future Clemson signee, Quarterback Tony McNeal.

Flowers transition from high school to college was seamless; his college-level quarterbacks and offenses flourished under his teaching and supervision, just as his high school players and offenses produced.

In three off his first four years as a college offensive coordinator, two different quarterbacks (2010 Ryan Carter- JCSU and 2012 James Stallons- Shaw University) led the conference in passing and a running back (2013 Marquise Grizzle- Shaw University) led the conference in rushing. In his second year as a collegiate offensive coordinator, he helped Johnson C. Smith University to the 2011 Pioneer Bowl. In the win, true Freshman QB (Keahn Wallace) won MVP honors. Wallace was also the 2011 CIAA Rookie of the Year.

Coach Flowers was a featured speaker at the 2013 and 2018 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Convention where he presented "QB Play and Fundamentals" to a national audience of high school and college coaches. His article "High Percentage Run-Pass Options, When There Is No Options" was published in the April 2013 edition of American Football Monthly/Grid Iron Strategies magazine.

Flowers attended East Mecklenburg High School where he was All-Conference in football and basketball as a junior and senior. He is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, where he was team captain and named College Football Preview Magazine All-American Quarterback three years, 1988-90.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and is currently pursuing his Masters in Health Education at East Carolina University.

He and his wife Tonya have three daughters, Madison, Meghan and Tomi.
