Murry also serves as the university’s men’s and women’s golf coach. He returned to Itta Bena from East Oktibbeha High School in Crawford, MS, where he served as the head coach and interim assistant principal from 2001 until January of 2004.
Murry brings a wealth of experience and a vast background that spans from the coaching field to educational administration. Prior to his stint at East Okitbbeha, Murry served as an offensive assistant coach at Alcorn State.
As an assistant at Alcorn State, Murry was responsible for the offensive linemen and running backs. He was also given the duties of assistant track coach and served as an instructor in the Health and Physical Education Department.
In May of 2001, Murry received his master’s of science degree in secondary education. Murry joined Alcorn State after spending three seasons at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as offensive coordinator and line coach. In two games against Miles and Lane colleges, Murray’s offense set a school record for most points scored in back-to-back games. The 79 points scored against Miles College remains the third highest point total in UAPB history. He also served as Program Director for Residential Life from 1990-1998 before moving on to Alcorn State.
Murry, a graduate of MVSU, received his bachelor of science degree in industrial technology in May of 1984. A three-time All-SWAC center, he was an original member of the famed “Tons of Fun,” the offensive line that was the nuts-and-bolts of then head coach Archie “Gunslinger” Cooley’s celebrated “Satellite Express” offense.
Murry has also worked as an assistant to former MVSU coaches Cooley and Ken Pettiford, respectively. Murry is married to the former Cassandra Stevenson and is the father of four children, son Jarrett, and daughters Ashlee, Maya and Jasmine.
