Steven Miller enters his second season as the defensive line coach for Mississippi Valley State Football.
Miller comes to MVSU after four seasons as the Head Football Coach at Coahoma Community College. HIs immediate impact at Coahoma was displayed in player development.
In his first two years, he helped produce seven first-team All-MACJC players: CT Williams (2), Antonio Nelson (2), Cecil Cherry, Jordan Harris, Damon Kemp, three second team: Ernest Butler, Jayshon Foster and Damien Kemp, two All Regions and two All Americans: Cecil Cherry and Antonio Nelson. This not including four academic All Americans. 2020 NFL Draftees; Davion Taylor, Philadelphia Eagles and Christopher Claybrooks, Jacksonville Jaguars. Along with these accomplishments Miller broke a thirty-game school losing streak and has advanced over thirty student-athlete to four-year institutions ranging from the SEC to Division 2 institutions.
Miller, a native of Olive Branch, spent eight years in the NAIA ranks as a member of coaching staffs at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. He attended Olive Branch High School and Northwestern State University of Louisiana where he studied psychology. Miller brings 24 years of coaching experience and plenty of MACJC knowledge, having won a national championship and two state titles for the Northwest Mississippi Rangers before finishing his playing career at Northwestern (La.) State. He holds a master's from William Penn University in Business Leadership.
Miller began his coaching career at Northwestern (La.) State in 1994. He coached at Arkansas Tech, Olive Branch High, Itawamba High, and Northwest Mississippi Community College before accepting a job as the defensive line coach at William Penn in Oskaloosa. For five seasons as head of the D-line, Miller made huge contributions to the program, guiding the Penn Statesmen to two conference championships and the opportunity to mentor New York Jets defensive end Damon Harrison.
After a brief stint as head coach of the semi-pro Pella Knights, Miller's coaching career led him to take the defensive coordinator position at Tabor College in January 2013. The Tabor squad totaled 28 victories in the three full seasons he was with the program, including an 11-2 finish in the 2015 campaign.
