Zane Samuel, an Alabama native and graduate of Paul W. Bryant High School, joins the Delta Devils coaching staff in 2023 after a brief stint with Delta State as a Graduate Assistant in spring 2022 before joining ECCC Warriors as the Defensive Line Coach. Â
Samuel played four seasons with the Statesmen dating back to 2016 due to a redshirt and the COVID season cancelation. Samuel had a stand-out playing career at Delta State University.
The defensive end earned Second Team All-GSC (Gulf South Conference) honors in 2019 after racking up 26 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and six and a half sacks through ten games. Part of a Statesmen's defense that led the GSC in total defense (309.2 ypg.), rush defense (122.0 ypg.), and sacks per game (2.70). He ranked fourth in the GSC in sacks per game (.65). Tied for second in the GSC in tackles for loss per game (1.4) with Vada King.Â
Samuel wrapped up his career with another 26 tackle to the season as a senior. Along with being a team captain on his high school team at Paul W. Bryant High School, Samuel competed in track and field. Samuel resides in Itta Bena, Miss.
