Sims entering his first year as an assistant coach for Mississippi Valley State men's basketball team after spending the previous four seasons at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Prior to Tuskegee, Sims played professionally in Morocco, Iceland, Romania, and Hungary.

While at Tuskegee Sims helped guide the Golden Tigers to a 58-39 record during his 4-year span. Sims led the Tigers to the 2022-2023 SIAC regular season title and to the 2023 Division II NCAA tournament for the first time in 10 years.Â
He was instrumental in player development, coaching four All-Conference performers (James Eads, Myles Thomas, Gregg Boyd, and Devin Booker) during his four-year span.Â
The Jackson, Miss. native played in 115 career games with the Tulane Green Wave and holds career averages of 11.5 points, 3.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. Among career leaders in scoring, he finished 15th in that category, assists (3rd), three-point field goals (3rd), three-point percentage (3rd), free throws made and assist-turnover ratio (3rd). Sims completed his career as one of only three players in school history to lead the team in assists for four straight seasons, one of two players to record 100+ assists in three straight seasons and one of two players in school history to record 1300 points and 400 assist. Sims was voted to Tulane's All Decade Team (2000-2010).

As a junior, Sims was listed as a Bob Cousy Award candidate. That same season, he started in all 31 games and led the team in scoring (13.0), assists (4.0), three-point field goals (51), free throws (110) and minutes played (35.0). He reached double figures in 22 games, and posted seven 20+ point scoring games, which were the most by a Green Wave player at the time in over five seasons. During his career, Sims had a streak of 80 consecutive games with an assist.Â
Sims attended Forest Hill High School in Jackson, Mississippi, and as a senior he was a first team all-state selection for all classifications in Mississippi and was selected to play in the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Game where he scored a career-high 42 points against Brandon High School.
The Tulane graduate is married to Mieacha Sims and has one son, Kaison Sims.
