Terrance Chatman arrives to Mississippi Valley State University from Terrell, Texas after a two year sint as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Southwestern Christian College.
Terrance Chatman just completed his second year of being the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Southwestern Christian College from 2022-2024. Where he was task of changing the culture with double the win total each of his two years at the helm, also sending 5 young ladies to four-year school at the helm.
Terrance Chatman made his way to Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas from Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, Florida where he was the Men’s Assistant Basketball Coach under Fred Summer from 2021-2002
Terrance Chatman also served at Bethune-Cookman University as a Residence Life Coordinator for the office of Student Affair’s in 2022, before that Chatman work at St. Augustine Youth Service as a Professional Houseparent from 2020-2022, Chatman also spent time as a Hall Director for the department of Student’s Affairs at Alabama AM University in 2020. Chatman got his start in Student’s Affairs at Tougaloo College as a Residence Life Coordinator from 2018-2020.
Terrance Chatman makes his return to Florida AM University in the summer of 2016, bringing a wealth of coaching educational and administrative experience this time to the lady Rattler, helping the Lady Rattler to a 9-7 Conference record earning a #4 seed in the MEAC Tournament making it to the semifinal game. Chatman’s tutelage helped, Shakerrys Morrison lead the Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference in rebounds.
The 2015-16 collegiate season was Terrance Chatman’s first as Alcorn State University Men’s Associate Head Coach. Chatman help lead Alcorn State to a 15-15 record overall and a conference record of 13-5 in the Southwest Conference earning a #2 seed. Chatman’s tutelage helped Tamarico Wilson into earning second team all-conference along with Trey Brown. Before coming to Alcorn State University Chatman was a assistant coach for Essence Girls Nike National AAU Team. Chatman’s help Essence win the PSBS summer kickoff tournament in Atlanta, Ga and Chatman’s Essence team also won the Battle on the Boro in Nashville, Tn.
Before joining Essence Girl’s AAU Team, Chatman spent one year as an assistant at Florida A.M. University (2013-2014) under then Head coach Clemon Johnson, where Chatman help Florida A.M. University reach the Quarterfinal of the Mid-Eastern Athletic conference tournament.
Prior to Chatman joining Clemon Johnson staff at Florida A.M. University, he spent six years at Central Michigan University for then Head Coach Ernie Zeigler, (2006-2009) Chatman sever as director of basketball operations. (2008-2009) Chatman was move to assistant coach. (2009-2012) Coach Zeigler promoted Chatman to assistant coach in the spring of 2009.
Chatman help the Chippewas of Central Michigan University to a pair of back to back Mid-American Conference West Division titles. In (2010-2011) Chatman’s tutelage helped guards Trey Zeigler and Jalin Thomas each earn honorable mention All-Mac honors, in 2011 Zeigler set the Central Michigan University single- season freshman scoring record of 506 points and was named to the MAC-All Freshman Team as well as the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major All-American Team.
One year earlier Chatman coached second team All-MAC selections Robbie Harman and Jordan Bitzer, who both joined the program’s 1,000point club. Chatman, 39, joined Gibson staff at Florida AM University staff in the summer of 2016 after serving one year at Alcorn State University (2015-2016) and a one- year stints at Florida A.M. University (2013-14) and six year at Central Michigan University(2006-2012).
Chatman also was the Head coach of the AAU Team Detroit from April (2005-July-2006) Chatman guided Team Detroit to the All American Cage Classic Tournament Championship, 2006 King James Classic Tournament Quarterfinal, and 2006 Adidas Hoop Challenge Tournament Quarterfinal, also (2005) Reebok Big Time Tournament Quarterfinal, and the Weber Capital Invitational Tournament Quarterfinal.
In addition, he was also an assistant Boys and Girls basketball coach at Detroit Cody High School, in Detroit, Michigan (2005- 2006) in which Cody Girls basketball team was ranked among Michigan’s Top -10 Class A team during Chatman’s career coaching there.

I got a chance to know and watch Terrance when he was here as a men’s assistant basketball coach in (2013-2014) His passion for the game and his on-the-court instruction and developing of players will be very significant for ours program.

Born August 27, 1977 in Detroit, Mi Chatman began his coaching career under the tutelage of the late Charles Knott at Detroit Cody High School. As a collegian, Chatman played at Garden City Community College (Garden City, KS 1996-1998) one of the toughest Basketball conference in the Country. Chatman would earn all -conference his two years playing at Garden City Community College leading them to the quarterfinal of the regions six tournament. Chatman graduate from Garden City Community College in (1998) then went on to play his final two years at University Of Missouri of Kansas City where he play for then Head Coach Bob Sundvold, and his final year for Dean Demopoulos.
Chatman is a 2001 graduate of University of Missouri of Kansas City with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. Terrance Chatman and his wife, Christina, have two children, Chyelle (25) and Terrance Jr. (20).
