Belden Ferguson begins his third season as an assistant coach in 2014-15 season with the Mississippi Valley State University track and field and cross country program.
Ferguson, who began his current duties in August 2012, is responsible for coaching the MVSU field, hurdles, and multi-athletes along with serving as an assistant with cross country.
In the 2012-13 seasons, Ferguson coached one Devilette to two consecutive conference individual championship titles in the long and triple jump. During the cross country campaign he has assisted in two championship titles in 2012-13.
Prior to MVSU, Ferguson spent 2010-11 as a student coach at his alma mater Alabama State University in Montgomery, Al. He assisted in jumps and hurdles. During the duration of time spent at ASU, Ferguson coached several of athletes with a result of one indoor title in the 60 hurdles and outdoor title in the heptathlon.
A three-year track letter winner (2006-10) at Alabama State University, Ferguson earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) All-SWAC honors two out of the three seasons (2006-10). He placed 2nd for the Hornets in the 60 and 110-meter hurdles at the 2010 SWAC Indoor /Outdoor Championships and first in the long jump. Ferguson was an NCAA East Region qualifier in the 2010 outdoor season in both the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump. Ferguson graduated ASU in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
"An individual once stated to me 'If you enjoy what you do, you will never work a day in your life,'" Ferguson said. “I endeavor to become the best possible coach I can be.”
