Box Score ITTA BENA – Alabama A&M proved on Saturday why its one of the best teams in the SWAC.
The Bulldogs (6-0, 5-0 SWAC) overpowered Mississippi Valley State 35-0 on Saturday on the Delta Devils’ homecoming in front of a crowd of 4,296.
MVSU (1-4, 1-2 SWAC) was limited to 168 total yards (88 rushing, 80 passing), while A&M quarterback Deaunte Mason continued his dominance helping the Bulldogs stay undefeated and win their sixth straight.
The Delta Devils limited the Bulldogs to just seven first quarter points, with A&M scoring on a 5-yard plunge from Kaderius Lacey with 4:06 left in the first quarter. But they added 14 more points in the second to take a 21-0 lead at halftime.
Garrick Jones replaced MVSU starting quarterback Marcus Randle in the second half, but was unable to lead the Delta Devils to a scoring drive. Jones did, however, account for MVSU’s longest play of the game – a 44-yard rush.
Mason and Bulldogs put the finishing touches on the victory with 14 second half points using a 1-yard TD run and a 14-yard strike to Bobby Goldsby.
Mason finished 21-of-32 for 235 yards and two passing touchdowns.
Brandon Stansell led the Delta Devils with 40 rushing yards while Trey Bateaste picked up 37 on the ground. Terrance Hudson had three catches for 37 yards while Julian Stafford had two catches for 42 yards for MVSU.
Garrick Jones finished 3-of-8 for 52 yards and an interception.
A&M outgained Valley 366 to 168.
Carlos Hollis led MVSU with nine tackles (1.5 for loss) while Keven Woods and Jeremy Johnson (and a forced fumble) had seven each.
