Devilettes falls 70-47 at UAB

Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Through the first 20 minutes, it looked like the Mississippi Valley State women's basketball team could pull off an upset at UAB.

After going into halftime with a 32-31 lead Saturday, the Devilettes (0-3) were outscored 39-15 in the second half in a 70-47 loss to the Blazers.

After converting 36 percent of its shots in the first half and 5-of-10 shots from behind the arc, MVSU shot just 16.7 percent in the second half.

MVSU was led by Joncyee Sanders with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists. Derita Silas added eight points off the bench while Jasmyne Sanders chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds.

The Devilettes will be off until Saturday when they host their first regular season game of the season against Philander Smith College at 3 p.m.
