THE DELTA | The Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball team officially opens its 2026-27 regular season Tuesday, November 3, as the Delta Devils travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to face the Marquette Golden Eagles at the Al McGuire Center. Tipoff is listed for 6:30 p.m. CT on MVSU's schedule.

Under second-year head coach Jason James, Mississippi Valley State enters the matchup looking to build on a strong exhibition performance after defeating Tougaloo College, 81-67, on October 29 inside the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.

The Delta Devils showcased a balanced offensive attack during the exhibition contest, led by standout returner Sydnei Marshall, who finished with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Marshall also contributed four rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocked shots.

Mariah Reed-Jones added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Ja'la Douglas chipped in 14 points, five rebounds and three steals. I'Xana Winters provided eight points, eight rebounds and a team-high six assists.

Newcomer Bryana Block also made her presence felt, contributing five points and four assists, while Kambili Nelson added six points off the bench.

After trailing 14-8 following the opening quarter against Tougaloo, Mississippi Valley State responded with a dominant second period, outscoring the Bulldogs 23-7 to take a 31-21 advantage into halftime. The Delta Devils continued their offensive production in the second half to secure the 14-point exhibition victory.

As a team, Valley shot 49.2 percent from the field and held a 46-33 rebounding advantage, providing several positives heading into regular-season competition.

Tuesday's matchup will present an early challenge for Mississippi Valley State as the Delta Devils face a Marquette program competing in the BIG EAST Conference.

The Golden Eagles will also open their regular-season campaign Tuesday, providing both programs an opportunity to establish early momentum. Mississippi Valley State will look to carry its defensive intensity, balanced scoring and rebounding effort into the matchup.

With a combination of experienced returners and newcomers, James and the Delta Devils will look to establish consistency and continue developing team chemistry throughout a challenging nonconference schedule.

The matchup against Marquette begins a stretch of five consecutive road contests for Mississippi Valley State, giving the Delta Devils an opportunity to gain valuable experience before returning home later in November.

Following Tuesday's contest, Mississippi Valley State will travel to Chicago, Illinois, to face Chicago State on Thursday, November 5. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
