Lakes leads Devilettes past Lady Panthers

ITTA BENA -- Brittney Lakes celebrated Senior Day in fashion Saturday, scoring 20 points and seven rebounds to lead the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State to a 63-56 win over Prairie View A&M.

Lakes, a Drew native, hit nine of 15 shots to end MVSU's two-game losing skid. Ka'Neisha Smith added eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks for a Devilette team that is currently in second place in the SWAC.

Latia Williams led Prairie View (10-14, 7-6 SWAC) with 15 points. Kiara Etienne added 13 points while Jeannette Jackson chipped in 11.

Valley led 33-27 at halftime.

MVSU (13-12, 10-4 SWAC) shot 37.3 percent and hit six of 19 shots from behind the arc.

Prairie View, meanwhile, shot 38.5 percent and hit five of 17 three-pointers.

Valley will host Texas Southern on Monday at 3 p.m.
