Box Score BATON ROUGE -- The Mississippi Valley State women's basketball team suffered its second conference loss of the season Monday when the Devilettes were defeated by Southern 73-62 at the FG Clark Activity Center.
Southern (6-11, 5-1 SWAC) moved atop the SWAC rankings thanks to four Lady Jags who scored in double-figures. Yasmin Fuller led all scorers with 19 points to lead the Lady Jaguars past the Devilettes (6-10, 3-2 SWAC).
MVSU last held the lead in the game when Joncyee Sanders converted a layup with 11:50 left in the first half. Southern then took control for most of the rest of game and withstood a late Devilette rally that cut the lead to two points, 49-47, with nine minutes left in the game.
Valley's top two scorers in the game came off the bench. Jasmyne Sanders scored a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds while Derita Silas chipped in 14 points.
The Devilettes shot 37 percent from the field while Southern made 40.9 percent of its field goals.
MVSU will return home Saturday when they host Prairie View at 3 p.m.
