PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Mississippi Valley State fell 79-64 at Arkansas-Pine Bluff Wednesday in its conference opener at H.O. Clemmons Arena. 

UAPB (2-11) opened the game on a 17-0 run and led 35-29 at halftime. 

MVSU (0-11) closed the gap to as much as three points with less than 11 minutes on the clock, but the Golden Lions marched out on 17-4 run to defeat the Delta Devils. 

Davon Usher paced Valley with 19 points while Matt Smith added 17. 

UAPB's Terrell Kennedy dominated the low-post for most of the night and led all scorers with 25 points on 9-of-14 shots. Lazabian Jackson, who made 4-of-9 three's, finished with 16 while Marcel Mosley chipped in 10. 

UAPB dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Delta Devils 39 to 20. 

The Delta Devils shot 45.5 percent on the night while the Golden Lions converted 49 percent of its shots. 

Valley will be home for the first time this season when they host Alabama A&M Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
