Tough shooting night dooms Devilettes

ITTA BENA -- The Mississippi Valley State women's basketball team shot just 26.6 percent from the field Monday in a tough 58-47 loss to Texas Southern at the Harrison HPER Complex.

The Devilettes (7-11, 4-3 SWAC) made just 5 of 28 shots in the first half and failed to erase TSU's 22-14 halftime lead.

Alia Frank was the lone MVSU players in double figures with 10 points and 10 rebounds while A'Shanti Weathers chipped in eight points.

Teera Williams led TSU (9-9, 6-1 SWAC) with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Kayla West added 14 points and Brianna Sidney chipped in 13.

TSU shot 35.1 percent on the night and made 13 of 19 free throws.

MVSU will be back in action Saturday at Jackson State at 5:30 p.m.
