Devilettes suffer setback against Lady Bulldogs

ITTA BENA -- Alabama A&M used a strong second half effort Sunday to spoil Mississippi Valley State's home conference opener, defeating the Devilettes 67-58 at the Harrison HPER Complex.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-9, 3-0 SWAC) outscored MVSU 44-30 in the second half to stay undefeated in the conference.

Khristina Clemons led MVSU (4-9, 1-1 SWAC) with 16 points while Derita Silas added 15 off the bench. Alia Frank chipped in 13 points for the Devilettes, who shot 35.4 percent on the night.

MVSU struggled from behind the arch, hitting only 3-of-23 shots.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Alyssa Strickland with 18 points while three other players scored in double-figures. Brittney Strickland put up 16 points while Shundray Davis chipped in 14 Jasmine Sanders had 11.

Alabama A&M shot 40.8 percent on the night and made 24-of-30 free throws.

MVSU will be home Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against Alabama State at 5:30 p.m.
