Devilettes to open SWAC Tournament against Lady Bulldogs

GARLAND, Texas -- The Mississippi Valley State women's basketball team will face Alabama A&M Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center in the first round of the Toyota SWAC Basketball Tournament. Links for live stats and video are below.

MVSU vs. Alabama A&M breakdown: The Devilettes (15-14) have won five of the last six meetings between the two teams...... The squads split during the regular season......MVSU won 51-45 on Feb. 2 while A&M defeated Vallley 67-58 on Jan. 6......

Scouting the Lady Bulldogs: Jasmine Sanders, a Second Team All-SWAC selection, leads A&M with 11.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.....The Lady Bulldogs have three players averaging at least five rebounds per game (Sanders - 6.4, Nedra Robertson - 6.9, Clairissa Moore - 5.3).......A&M is ranked second in the SWAC in rebounding margin (+1.4).......

Sanders rising up in NCAA assists rankings: MVSU junior point guard Joncyee Sanders is ranked 1st in the SWAC and 31st in the nation in assists per game with 5.5......She had a career-high 14 assists against Grambling State.....Sanders was recently named
Second Team All-SWAC....

Malone, Jefferson out for season: The Devilettes will be without two key reserves during the SWAC Tournament. Reserve guards Davina Jefferson and Malea Malone are both out for the season with injuries.

Clemons becoming go-to option: MVSU senior forward Khristina Clemons hopes to keep up her scoring streak when she leads the Devilettes against Alabama A&M in her home state of Texas. Clemons has scored in double-figures in each of the last six games with her career-high 21 coming against UAPB in Valley's last outing.
