MEMPHIS -- Both the Mississippi Valley State men's and women's cross country teams competed Saturday in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic at the Mike Rose Complex. Both teams, however, finished in the last spot in both the men's and women's race.   

On the men's side, Daniel Kibet had the best finished among MVSU's six runners with a time of 23:01.04. He finished 52 spots ahead of the next Valley athlete, Felix Kiprop, who placed 96th out of 173 runners. As a team, Valley finished with an average time of 24:39.39. 

Meanwhile, Joyce Chumo finished first among MVSU's women student-athletes with a time of 18:39.95. Tamara Gillard, who placed 94th, finished with a time of 21:46.18. As a team, the MVSU women had an average time of 23:13.19. 

MVSU will compete Friday in the Alcorn State Cross Country Classic.
