RUSTON, La. -- Several Mississippi Valley State cross country runners set personal best records Saturday at the Mook 5 Invitational, hosted by Louisiana Tech.
In the women's 5k competition, Tamara Gillard finished fourth among 56 runners with a personal best time of 20:04.43. Her twin sister Savannah Gillard, meanwhile, placed fifth with a 20:05.78 finish.
Keimara Davis placed 11th with a time of 21:01.85 and Jovanna Peterson's time of 22:42.65 was good enough for 25th place.
Next in line for Valley was Aliah Benson, who placed 30th with a time of 23:49.21. Also, Mercy Lagat placed 40th with a time of 24:55.01.
On the men's side, Daniel Kibet finished ahead of all MVSU runners with a time of 15:46.10 in the 5k, which placed him 3rd among 53 competitiors.
Felix Kiprop's time of 16:13.91 gave him the 11th spot while Jose Serrano took 13th place with a time of 16:25.58.
Romello Nalepa (14th) was right behind Serrano with a time of 16:26.31. Victor Chesang claimed 27th place with a time of 17:21.45 and Earl Winters was 28th with a 17:27.56 finish.
Theodore Johnson finished 48th with a time of 19:56.68.
MVSU cross country will compete Saturday, September 28, at the Rhodes College Open in Memphis.
