Group effort gives Devilettes third straight win

Box Score NORMAL, Ala. -- Mississippi Valley State used a group effort Monday night to upend homestanding Alabama A&M 83-77 in overtime as the Devilettes captured its third straight victory.

Five MVSU players reached double-figures including a pair who had double-doubles.

Jasmyne Sanders finished with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds while Joncyee Sanders contributed 12 points and 10 assists to keep the hot-shooting Devilettes on a roll. MVSU (4-10, 3-0 SWAC) marched out to its third straight conference win heading into Saturday's showdown against rival Alcorn State at the Leflore County Civic Center in Greenwood.

Valley led by 10 points at halftime, 47-37, before the Lady Bulldogs embarked on a second half comeback.

Both teams had a chance to take the lead near the end of regulation, but both came up short. After A&M's Jasmine Sanders cut Valley's lead to two, 73-71, with 41 seconds left, MVSU turned the ball over and missed a potential game-clinching free throw.

A&M then tied the game at 73 with 11 seconds left thanks to a jump shot by Brittany Strickland. Another MVSU turnover gave the Lady Bulldogs one last opportunity, but Strickland was unable to convert that time.

The Devilettes had total control in overtime, outscoring A&M 10-4.

MVSU shot 47.1 percent.
