Box Score LORMAN, Miss. -- A trio of Alcorn State players combined for 56 points Saturday night to send the Braves to a 65-53 win over Mississippi Valley State at the Dave Whitney HPER Complex.
Marquis Vance connected on 10-of-16 shots to lead all scorers with 24 points to keep the Delta Devils (4-13, 0-4 SWAC) winless in the conference. Octavius Brown added 17 points and LeAntwan Luckett chipped in 15 for Alcorn (6-11, 3-2 SWAC) to secure the Braves' third straight victory.
It was a back-and-forth first half with Alcorn's largest lead of only six with 40 seconds left before halftime. Valley cut the deficit to three, 33-30, at halftime thanks to a pair of free throws by Cordarius Samples and another one right before the buzzer by Jeffrey Simmons.
But the Delta Devils went cold in the second half, shooting just 26 percent. Alcorn outscored the Delta Devils 32-23 in the final 20 minutes.
DeAngelo Priar, Anthony McDonald and Julius Francis each had 10 points apiece for the Delta Devils. It marked a season-high for Francis.
One positive note for Valley was the rebounding category: MVSU beat the Braves 36 to 26 on the boards.
The Delta Devils will host Southern University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center.
