Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- DeAngelo Priar provided just the spark Mississippi Valley State needed Monday night.
The junior guard scored a career-high 20 points to help the Delta Devils overcome a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat Prairie View, 81-72.
MVSU (6-14, 2-5 SWAC) shot 60 percent in the second half and outscored the Panthers 52-29 in the final 20 minutes to win its second conference game of the season.
Priar made all four of his 3-point attempts and surpassed his former career-high of 19 points.
After going into the locker room down 43-29, the Delta Devils started to land some punches on the Panthers in the second half. Prairie View led by as much as 16 points early in the second half, but Valley climbed back starting with a 3-pointer by Priar, followed by a 3-point play from freshman point guard Jordan Washington that cut the lead to 47-37 with 17:41 on the clock.
MVSU continued to attack the basket and cut the lead to just three points, 53-50, with more than 13 minutes remaining on another three-pointer by Priar. Later on, Anthony McDonald's three-pointer tied the game at 65 at the 6:24 mark.
The Delta Devils went on a 16-5 run to end the game, thanks mostly to a host of free throws by Washington, who had 15 points off the bench.
McDonald had 14 points for the Delta Devils and James Currington chipped in 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
John Brisco paced the Panthers with 20 points.
The Delta Devils will host Jackson State at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Leflore County Civic Center in the first of five straight home games.
