Devilettes drop final game of Texas road trip

Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- The last time the Mississippi Valley State and Prairie View women's basketball teams met, the Lady Panthers held on for a four-overtime win in the SWAC Tournament championship.

On Monday, Prairie View (4-13, 4-3 SWAC) won another bout between the two teams as the Lady Panthers upended the Devilettes, 77-59. It marked the end of Valley's road trip to Texas as the Devilettes now prepare for five straight home games.

Valley went into halftime down 47-26 and was unable to battle back despite outscoring the Lady Panthers 33-30 in the second half.

Jasmyne Sanders scored in double-figures in her third straight game, leading Valley with 19 points. DeRita Silas chipped in 14 points off the bench and A'Shanti Weathers had 12.

Weathers help cut Prairie View's lead to 50-41 after a couple of 3-pointers with under 16 minutes left. Then, Valley cut the lead to 60-52 with less than 7 minutes remaining, but that would be as close as the Devilettes would get.

LeReahn Washington led the Lady Panthers with 24 points off the bench while Gabrielle Scott added 23 for Prairie View, which shot 45.6 percent.

MVSU shot 37.7 percent.

The Devilettes will host Jackson State on Saturday, Feb. 1 at  3 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center.
