MONTICELLO, Ark. -- The Mississippi Valley State women's volleyball team won one of two non-conference games Friday night during a tri-match hosted by Arkansas-Monticello.
The Devilettes started off the night with a 3-0 win over Texas College before suffering a 3-0 loss to Arkansas-Monticello to close out the night.
Texas CollegeMVSU swept Texas College in three straight sets: 25-18, 25-8, 25-19. Valley's Halee Clark had a team-high 11 kills and Steffi Rodriguez finished with 11 digs in the Devilettes second consecutive victory. Alexandria Garland contributed 22 assists for the Devilettes (4-20, 0-5 SWAC). Cynthia Richardson also had a great performance with six kills, a block and a blocking assist for a total of 7.5 points.
Arkansas-MonticelloThings, unfortunately, didn't go as well when the Devilettes followed up their win against the host team, Arkansas-Monticello. UAM defeated the Devilettes 25-11, 25-15, 25-22. Ilashia Hale had eight of Valley's 20 kills in the game and Garland chipped in a team-high 16 assists and nine digs. Hale had a hitting percentage of .583, a season high.
The Devilettes will be back on the road next week on Oct. 30 at Grambling State.
