JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes traveled to Jackson, Mississippi to compete in the first Southwestern Athletic Conference Roundup on Friday and Saturday.
MVSU finished the tournament 1-4 overall, defeating the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0, before falling to Prairie View A & M 3-1, Southern University 3-0, Texas Southern 3-1 and Grambling State 3-0.
Vs. UAPB Mississippi Valley State collected a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-18) victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff to start the SWAC Volleyball Round Up at T.B. Ellis Gymnasium. Mississippi Valley State improves to 2-19 on the year while Arkansas-Pine Bluff moves to 4-18.
Ilaisha Hale led the Devilettes with nine kills and two block assists, while Marissa Chalmers chipped in seven putaways, two digs and a block assist. Cynthia Richardson tallied seven kills, a solo block and two block assists, while Halle Gayten had six putaways, eight digs and a service ace. Brooklyn Hudson dished out 26 assists, six digs and three block assists as Kalin Barnes picked up eight digs, two assists and a putaway. , 25-11, 25-16) loss to the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A & M University.
Halle Gayten paced Mississippi Valley 11 kills, while Marissa Chalmers and Ilaisha Hale added nine and eight respectively. Tiara Wilkens landed two serving aces. Gayten tallied three blocks, with Hale and Megan Jones adding two each. Brooklyn Hudson was on fire, recording 25 assists, as Bianca Watkins and Gayten added two a piece. In digs, Kalin Barnes chipped in 14, Chalmers added eight and Jones tallied five.
Vs. Southern UniversitySouthern opened the second day of the SWAC Volleyball Round Up with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-20) victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at TB Ellis Gymnasium. Southern improves to 4-16 on the season while Mississippi Valley State moves to 2-19.
Halle Gayten's six kills, two digs and two blocks led the Devilettes' offense while Ilaisha Hale tallied five putways and a block. Brooklyn Hudson dished out 14 assists, three digs and a block as Kalin Barnes tallied 11 digs, one kill, one assist and one service ace. Vs. Texas SouthernTexas Southern defeated Mississippi Valley State 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 25-13) on Saturday at TB Ellis Gymnasium in SWAC Volleyball Round Up play. Texas Southern improves to 7-14 on the year while Mississippi Valley goes to 2-20.
Mississippi Valley State was paced by Cynthia Richardson's 14 putaways, six blocks and two assistst while Halle Gayten had 10 kills, six digs and two assists. Brooklyn Hudson dished out 32 assists, eight digs, two blocks and a putaway. Marissa Chalmers collected eight digs; seven kills and three blocks while Kalin Barnes tallied 16 digs and two assists. Mississippi Valley State tallied a .099 (44 kills, 31 errors, 131 attempts) hitting percentage.
