GREENWOOD, Miss. -- Mississippi Valley State had one of its best shooting performances of the season Saturday against rival Jackson State.
The Delta Devils made 53 percent of its shots en route to a 75-62 victory over the Tigers at the Leflore County Civic Center in front of a packed house.
Jeffrey Simmons and Jordan Washington scored 19 points apiece for the Delta Devils (3-18, 2-6 SWAC), who won their second conference game of the season. Isaac Williams, who scored a career-high 26 points last week against Texas Southern, chipped in 16 points using four three-pointers.
Overall, Valley couldn't be stopped from long range. The Delta Devils converted 13-of-23 three pointers, with Washington accounting for five of them. DeAngelo Priar chipped in eight points and six rebounds while Jabari Alex added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Derrell Taylor led JSU with 23 points and nine rebounds, as the Tigers dropped to 5-16 (3-5 SWAC).
Valley controlled the game throughout and lead by as much as 29 in the second half.
The Delta Devils will be at Grambling State on Monday night. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. in Grambling, La.
