SDN Preview: Mississippi Valley State at Jackson State

The SWAC Digital Network will air its final regular season contest Saturday at the Lee Williams Athletic Assembly Center when Mississippi Valley State takes on Jackson State.  The men's and women's double-header is slated for a 3 p.m. start with coverage getting underway at 2:55 p.m.

Three points separated the two women's teams last month as JSU's Dominique Brothern's last second half court heave grazed the front of the rim as time expired and the Delta Devils survived 74-71.  Both units saw a combined eight different players to score in double figures.

For the second straight season, Ayanna Hardy-Fuller has led Jackson State in rebounds (7.1) and is second on the team in scoring (11.2).  She has been the leading scorer in 11 of the teams 24 games this season.   Brothern leads the Tigers in steals averaging 3.5 per game.

Christina Reed carries the scoring load for MVSU producing 11.3 points per contest but she isn't alone as last season's SWAC Freshmen of the Year in Ashley Beals averages 10.9 per game.  Kadesha Floyd's 37 three pointers has her ranked fifth in the league.

Jackson State's (9-18, 7-7) men will enter Saturday's game fresh off of defeating Grambling State 72-33.  Prior to that, the Tigers suffered back to back overtime losses to Prairie View and Texas Southern respectively.  Each of the next four games remaining on JSU's schedule could very well turn out to be pivitol in terms of seeding.  Raeford Worshman leads the team with 12.3 points per game but missed nearly three weeks of action with an injury.  Kaven Bernard (10.6 ppg) and Javares Brent (8.0 ppg) picked up the slack in his absence.

The Mississippi Valley State (5-23, 4-11) men's team is looking to repeat the outcome from January when they topped JSU by 13 points at home.  Jeffery Simmons and Jordan Washington each scored 19 points apiece.  Three players are scoring 10 or more points per game--- Washington (12.9), Simmons (11.2), and DeAngelo Priar (10.0 ppg).  Improvement started to show late last month during a span in which the Delta Devils nearly defeated Texas Southern losing in triple overtime followed by back to back wins over Jackson State and Grambling State.
