GREENWOOD, Miss. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University clashed in a rivalry as heated as the Delta Devils' mascot themselves. With a score of 77-62, Mississippi Valley capitulated to Jackson State.
In the opening half, Jackson State came out with gaining the "W" on their minds. Mississippi Valley had some spurts of energy but they were able to fully swing the momentum in their favor.
Going into halftime, MVSU trailed the JSU 41-28. Isaac Williams paced the half with seven points, while Kylan Phillips and Marcus Romain added five points each. Vacha Vaughn tallied seven rebounds.
Exiting the locker room after the break in action, MVSU surged back into the contest with a vengeance. Grabbing rebounds left and right the Delta Devils focused on a successful rally. The competitive second half resulted in a 36-34 point split in favor of Jackson State.
Romain steadied his hands and started landing more baskets, leading to a team leading 13-points, four rebounds and two assists. Williams wrapped with 10-points, five rebounds and one assist. Damian Young had an impressive game as well with nine points, three rebounds and one assist.
As a team, MVSU tallied 34 rebounds (eight offensive, 26 defensive), 10 assists and 16 turnovers.
The Delta Devils will host the Tigers of Grambling State University on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 7:30 pm.
