Delta Devils Scorch Grambling Tigers

GREENWOOD, Miss. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University roasted the Tigers of Grambling State University 72-59, moving to 4-5 in conference play.
 
Mississippi Valley took an early lead and kept their foot on the gas for the duration of the contest. With 15:10 remaining in the opening half, MVSU was up 8-5 over the GSU. The Delta Devils continued to hammer the competition, going up 13-9 with 11:44 remaining in the first. Grambling clawed their way back into the contest, securing a one point, 23-22, deficit with 03:12 remaining in the half.
 
Too close for comfort, Mississippi Valley conducted a run that boggled the minds of Grambling State. In the remaining three minutes, MVSU scored 10-points, while holding GSU to four.
 
During the second half, the Delta Devils continued to pad their stats, going up 41-32 with 15:19 remaining in the game. The next media, MVSU was up 49-38 over the Tigers.
 
Marcus Romain landed a double double with 25-points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Isaac Williams added 17-points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ta'Jay Henry tallied eight points, nine rebounds, two assists and one block.
 
As a team, MVSU tallied 43 rebounds (12 offensive, 31 defensive), 12 assists and 13 turnovers.

"The guys refocused tonight and that was the big thing. Anytime we come to a ball game playing the defense we ran, we can have success," stated Head Coach Andre Payne.

Mississippi Valley will host the Hornets of Alabama State University on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 4:00 pm.
