MONTGOMERY The Mississippi Valley State Men's basketball team fell one point short in their contest against the Hornets of Alabama State University, dropping the game 75-74 with 2.5 seconds left on the clock in overtime.

The first half was all Mississippi Valley, as they entered the halftime break up 29-25. Marcus Romain paced the Delta Devils in the opening half with eight points, while Ta'Jay Henry pulled down seven rebounds.
With the momentum in their favor, the Delta Devils continued to press coming out of the break, but the Hornets chiseled away at their lead. The lead changed several times over the next few plays and at the end of regulation Mississippi Valley and Alabama State were tied 68-68.

The Hornets took an early five-point lead in the overtime period. With 1:45 remaining, a three-pointer by Isaac Williams tied the score for the eighth time at 73-73. With 31 ticks left the Delta Devils held a one-point advantage over the Hornets. Alabama State missed a three-pointer, pulled down an offensive rebound and made the layup.
Romain paced Mississippi Valley with 23-points, six assists, four rebounds and one steal, while Williams tallied 18-points, two rebounds and one steal. Young added 17-points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist.

The Delta Devils will be in action again on January 11, when they travel to Huntsville, Alabama, to face Alabama A & M University.
