ITTA BENA, Miss. – In their return to their home court, the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley fought a tough contest, while hosting Grambling State University. MVSU's rally feel short as they dropped the contest 3-1.
Grambling State took an impressive lead in the opening set and never relinquished it. They won the set 25-11, set two 28-26, and set four 25-21. Mississippi Valley won the third set 25-21.
Each set was within range for the Devilettes, however costly errors relinquished the points to the visiting Lady Tigers of Grambling State. There were some bright spots on the evening for MVSU, including the second set with deuce was reached and pushed beyond several times. Despite not taking the win in the set, Mississippi Valley showed poise and a fierce competitive nature.
Kalin Barnes recorded 17 kills for the Devilettes and Illiya Trahan tallied 13; while Cynthia Richardson added eight. Trahan also added two aces for MVSU. Brooklyn Hudson recorded 31 assists for MVSU to pace the team, while Nadia Crawford and Barnes tallied 17 and 15 digs respectively.
The Devilettes will return to action on Saturday, October 15 at 5:00 p.m. when they host the Lady Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
