ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State were unsuccessful at disrupting the progress of the Grambling State University Tigers on Homecoming 2016, dropping the contest 59-10.
To begin the contest, Grambling State won the coin and deferred to the second half. Mississippi Valley gave up 14-points in the first, while remaining scoreless. In the second quarter, Grambling State exploded with 21-points. The Delta Devils were able to climb onto the scoreboard on a 47-yard field goal by Nicholas Jacquemin. Going into halftime the score was 35-3 in favor of the Tigers.
With first possession in the third, Grambling scored on a 47-yard blister of a pass to Dominique Leake. The MVSU defense held stronger during the third, allowing only 10 points. In the fourth, GSU tacked on an additional 14-points. MVSU found the end zone when Austin Bray hit Joshua Banks on a six-yard pass.
Bray completed the contest 17-35-0 for 213 yards and one touchdown. Slade Jarman saw some action on the grid iron, going 5-9-38.
Booker T. Chambers collected 92-yards on eight receptions, while Banks recorded 53-yards on five. Defensively, Jordan Freeman tallied six solo tackles, one assist for a total of seven. Patrick Harbin, Jr., added five solo tackles, 2.0 tackles for a loss of 20-yards, 1.0 sacks for a loss of 15-yards and one force fumble. Khalil Young finished with three solo, one assist (total of four) and 1.0 tackles for a loss of eight yards.
Mississippi Valley has a bye week on October 28
th and will return to action when they travel to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to take on the Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on November 5. Kickoff is set for 2:30 pm.
