Delta Devils Surge Past Golden Lions 41-7

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils successfully breezed past the Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff 41-7 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

In the opening quarter, Booker Chambers pulled down a 12-yard touchdown pass from Slade Jarman to cap off a 14-play, 69-yard drive. Nicholas Jacquemin tagged on the extra point taking MVSU up 7-0. In the second Jarman connected with Chambers on a 26-yard pass, with Jacquemin adding the extra point.

The Delta Devils turn up the heat just before halftime. Striking twice between the 1:53 mark and 21 seconds. Austin Bray tagged Jessie Bryant on a 27-yard pass. The point after by Jacquemin was good; with 21 seconds remaining.  Bryant caught a nine-yard pass (Jacquemin) to take a 27-0 lead into halftime.

UAPB attempted to start a rally to start the third, finding the end zone on a three-yard pass. The extra point was good, making the score 27-7. Jarman reentered to contest to send a 12-yard stinging pass to Terrence Barron for a touchdown. Jacquemin nailed the extra point for Mississippi Valley. With 10-seconds remaining in the contest, Bray sent a scorching 38-yard pass to Joshua Banks (Jacquemin) for the final touchdown of the contest, as the fourth was scoreless.

Slade Jarman finished 17-23-1 for 214-yards and three touchdowns. Austin Bray finished 6-6-0 for 96 yards and three touchdowns. Thuston Rubin, Jr. connected on four of four for 50-yards. Jarman paced the team in rushing yards, rushing for 76-yards on 17 carries. Banks pulled down 108-yards on seven carries for one touchdown. Tre Simms tallied 71-yards on five receptions.

Defensively, Marquis Green finished with six tackles (3 solo and 3 assists), while Reggie Jackson finished with five (one solo and four solo). Laderlin Cheatam also tallied five tackles, three solo and two assists.
