ITTA BENA, Miss. – Mississippi Valley's volleyball team hosted the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A & M on Friday evening in Itta Bena, Mississippi, falling 3-1. The score breakdown was 25-13 (AAMU), 25-15 (AAMU), 27-25 (MVSU) and 25-19.
The opening two sets ended in favor of the Lady Bulldogs, as the Devilettes were unable to get a good rally going. There were sparks of fire in each set that hinted at MVSU's offense blazing to life, however it merely simmered until the third set.
In the third, Mississippi Valley climbed into the driver's seat and battled like a well-tuned machine. The intensity grabbed the audience and didn't release them until MVSU emerged the victors of the set. In the fourth, the Devilettes were unable to grasp the lead and hold it.
Statistically, Kalin Barnes was a powerhouse, tallying 13 kills and 16 digs. Marissa Chalmers added seven kills, two aces and two blocks. Megan Jones had a share of offensive brilliance with six kills. Brooklyn Hudson tallied 28 assists.
