Mississippi Valley Falls to Alcorn in Three Sets

ALCORN STATE, Miss. – Mississippi Valley State' volleyball team fell in three sets to the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University.

The sets breakdown was: 25-18, 25-22 and 25-21. Despite the rocky start, Mississippi Valley rallied back to push the second and third sets to close finishes.

MVSU opened the game with the set and scored on an attack error by Alcorn's Heather Jackson. Alcorn scored on a kill during the next rally. They Lady Braves went on to score twice more before the Devilettes were able to score again.

A furious rally ensued prior to Alcorn going on a brilliant run. The score doesn't reflect the true efforts of the Mississippi Valley team as they showed impressive finesse in their offensive stance.

The second set was an impressive show of athleticism. Both teams were able to score brilliant kills during the set, however the Lady Braves were able to overcome the Devilettes.

Brooklyn Hudson started the third serving and Alcorn scored in the play with a kill by Carol Kiam-Assato. Mississippi Valley scored on a block by Brianna Watkins and Megan Jones. Alcorn was able to take the lead 5-1 but MVSU was far from out of the contest.

Cynthia Richardson recorded 10 kills and four blocks to pace the Devilettes. Illiya Trahan had an impressive game with seven kills, two blocks and one service ace. Brooklyn Hudson added 19 assists, 10 digs and four kills.

Mississippi Valley continues their traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take on the Lady Jaguars of Southern University on Saturday, October 8. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
