Devilettes Dismantle Lady Braves 3-2

ITTA BENA, Miss. - Alcorn's Leticia Gonzales had the first serve. The Devilettes first point was made by an attack by Megan Jones. Kalin Barnes landed a brilliant kill. A passing error by Barnes gave the Lady Braves the point. Kill by 7 Sydney Mellom.

The second time out on the floor came with a score of 15-12, with Alcorn in the lead. Brooklyn Hudson served for four consecutive points. The first set ended 25-23 with the Lady Braves winning.

The second set started with the Devilettes serving. With a serving error from the Lady Braves' Jasmine Cruz, MVSU was in the game. Illiya Trahan served and when the ball reentered the Devilettes' side of the court Kalin Barnes nailed the kill. All timeouts were used at 24-22 with the Alcorn in the lead. The Lady Braves took the win 25-22.

In the third set Mississippi Valley surged back with a vengeance. Brianna Watkins scored an ace when the Lady Braves thought the ball was going out. Alcorn called their first time out after numerous errors caused Mississippi Valley to gain points with the score, taking the score to 7-4 with the Devilettes maintaining the lead. Barnes served and Cynthia Richardson landed the kill. An error by the Lady Braves gave MVSU the win with a score of 25-22.

Hudson started the contest with an ace to put Mississippi Valley up 1-0, to start the fourth set. The Devilettes may have been against the wall in the fourth set as a win from the Lady Braves would end the contest. With fierce determination, MVSU pulled ahead in the contest and edged past the Lady Braves with an easy win of 25-14.

The fifth and final set, and was a crowd pleaser. With stomping feet and yelling fans, the Devilettes surged to life. With a tied set, a yellow card was issued to the home team. Richardson was in just the right place several times on the night she was honored for her dedication to the Mississippi Valley volleyball team. In true leadership fashion, Richard landed a phenomenal kill to take MVSU up 14-12. An attacking error by the Lady Braves gave the Devilettes the win 15-12.
