ITTA BENA, Miss. – Mississippi Valley honored their seniors to start the contest. With three seniors serving as captains, the Delta Devils won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball.
The first quarter, the Braves scored 21-points; which included a nine-yard pass from Noah Johnson. That was a seven play, 99-yards drive. On a quarterback keeper, Johnson ran for a 23-yard run, capping a three play, 54-yard drive. With three seconds remaining in the first, a 38-yard pass by Johnson tacked on an additional six-points; the extra point was good.
The second quarter saw Alcorn score an additional 20-points to take the score to 41-0 at halftime. Collins Moore took a 23-yard pass from Johnson for a Braves' touchdown. LaDarrien Davis took a 16-yard pass from Johnson to cap a 35-yard scoring drive. Javen Morrison scored on a 64-yard interception, the point after failed.
The third quarter was another 20-point quarter for Alcorn State. A 51-yard pass from Johnson took the Braves up by seven. A 52-yard pass was the Braves' next scoring drive. The point after failed. Alcorn's final score of the contest came on a five-yard pass with ten minutes remaining in the contest.
Going into the 4th the score was 61-0. Booker Chambers pulled down an 11-yard pass from Thurston Rubin, Jr. With the point after by Nicholas Jacquemin, the final score was 61-7.
Defensively, Mark Pegues and Khalil Young each tallied eight tackles, five solo and three assists. Marquis Green finished with seven (one solo and six assists).
The Delta Devils will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take on the Jaguars of Southern University on Saturday, November 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
