THIBODAUX, La. – Alex Bravo bravely withstood the test of game one from the pitcher's mound against Nicholls State, however the Delta Devils lost the contest 18-2.
The Colonels scored five in the opening inning and continued to gain momentum. With one in the second, three in the third, two in the fifth, four in the sixth, one in the seventh and their final two in the eighth, Nicholls would not be denied.
Mississippi Valley scored one in the sixth and one in the ninth, on five hits and seven errors. NSU tallied 20 hits and three errors.
Drew Wheeler and Caleb Lindsey made quite the duo in game one. In the sixth a single by Wheeler scored Lindsey and in the ninth, Wheeler was picked off on a catcher to first baseman play to bring Lindsey in once again.
In game two, Marcus Jones stepped onto the mound for the Delta Devils. By a score of 15-1, the Colonels were able to slide away with the win.
MVSU's lone run came in the fifth when Fredrick Spencer, II tripled to score Quitman Smith.
The Delta Devils completed the contest with one run, four hits and five errors.
