THIBODAUX, La. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University opened their 2016 campaign facing the Colonels of Nicholls State in a four game series. The Colonels were searching for a shutout, however the Delta Devils denied that request, conceding the contest 6-1.
Cecil Hodges took the loss for Mississippi on the mound, dropping to 0-1 on the season. NSU scored two runs in the first, one in the fourth, one in the sixth and two in the eighth. Mississippi Valley thwarted the Colonels' strategy, scoring one run in the top of the seventh inning.
Caleb Lindsey may have grounded out to the second baseman, but he recorded the Delta Devils' only RBI of the contest, creating a chain reaction as Alex Bravo advanced to third and Gabriel Wadd scored.
MVSU finished the contest with six hits and two errors.
