GREENWOOD, Miss. – With 0.6 ticks remaining on the clock, the Prairie View A & M Panthers went to the charity stripe to shoot three. Mississippi Valley was clinging to a 61-60 advantage. Jayrn Johnson nailed all three to push the Panthers up 63-61.
The first half was all Prairie View. Going into the break, the Panthers were up 38-29. Marcus Romain scored 11-points to lead the Delta Devils in the opening half. Several Delta Devils pulled down two rebounds in the first to assist MVSU in the offensive and defensive schemes. Mississippi Valley landed 4-5 free throws for 80 percent from the charity stripe.
The Delta Devils took over the contest in the second half, outpacing Prairie View 32-25. Romain finished with 25-points, four defensive rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ta'Jay Henry tallied nine-points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal. Senior Latrell Love played in his last home contest as a Delta Devils. He pulled down two rebounds to assist MVSU in the efforts.
Head Coach Andre Payne stated, "Tonight we didn't play the entire game and that was the biggest issue."
The Delta Devils will travel to Jackson, Mississippi, to face the Tigers of Jackson State on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 7:30 pm.
