ITTA BENA –Mississippi Valley and the Alabama State Hornets battled the distance in Saturday's contest but the Delta Devils were unable to heat up their bats as they dropped the game 10-0.
Alabama State scored in the opening inning to take an early lead in game two of the three game series. The second and third innings were scoreless for both, the top of the fourth saw the Hornets explode with five runs.
With no runs scored in the fifth and Alabama State up 6-0 heading into the sixth, Mississippi Valley sought to shut their game down as they relinquished only two runs in the inning.
The seventh inning was the last scoreless inning, Alabama State scored once in the eighth and the ninth to secure the victory.
The Delta Devils and Hornets will meet in the rubber match on Sunday, April 24 at 1:00 pm. The contest will also serve as Mississippi Valley's Senior Day Observation.
