JACKSON – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State's 9-7 loss to the Tigers of Jackson State today, clinched the series in favor of JSU.
MVSU scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Arrington Smith doubled to right field to score Drew Wheeler. Jackson State scored twice in the bottom of the inning and once more in the second.
After a scoreless second inning, Mississippi Valley rallied back into the contest with three runs in the third. Chris McWright doubled to the shortstop scored on a throwing error by the third baseman. A single to left field by Marshall Parish scored McWright and Gabriel Waddell.
In the bottom of the third, the Tigers scored two runs and four in the sixth. MVSU scored once in the eighth and twice in the ninth. Wheeler singled up the middle to score Fredrick Spencer in the eighth.
In the ninth, the Delta Devils surged back into the contest but they were unable to overcome Jackson State. Spencer singled to the shortstop, scoring Marcus Jones. A single by Quitman Smith pushed McWright home.
The Delta Devils and Tigers will meet in the rubber match on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at 1:00 pm.
