JACKSON – The Mississippi Valley baseball team dropped a tough road contest to the Tigers of Jackson State University, falling 6-1 in the rubber match.
Neither team was able to score in the opening inning; in the bottom of the second the Tigers successfully pushed three runners across home plate.
The Delta Devils scored once in the third to prevent a shutout by JSU. Drew Wheeler grounded out to the second baseman but earned the RBI as Quitman Smith came home.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jackson State scored their final three runs to wrap scoring for the contest. The Tigers finished with six runs, 12 hits and one error, while the Delta Devils tallied one run on five hits and no errors.
