Devilettes Volleyball Team Unable to Rally in Day One of UTC Tournament

ITTA BENA, Miss – The Mississippi Valley State volleyball team fought valiantly against in day one of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, however they dropped both contests 3-0.
 
In their opening contest against California State Fullerton, the Devilettes pushed the Titians to the brink in sets one and two but were unable to close either. The final scores by sets were: 25-17, 25-7 and 25-21.
 
"The team played well. There are some issues we have to focus on moving forward but overall they showed great skills on the court," said Head Coach Douglas Hunter.
 
Mississippi Valley totaled 16 kills on 79 attacks; in set one MVSU tallied three kills, four in set two and finished with nine in the third. Cynthia Richardson paced the team with five kills, Kalin Barnes added four and Illiya Trahan contributed two.
 
Sydney Robinson led the Devilettes with six digs. Barnes added five, while Brooklyn Hudson tallied three. Hudson also led the team (MVSU) in assists with seven. Jaime Polk recorded Mississippi Valley lone serving ace for the contest.
 
In the second game, the Devilettes steadily improved their performance. Presbyterian College swept the contest, taking the opening set 25-9, second 25-14 and the final set 25-12.
 
Kalin Barnes led Mississippi Valley's offense attack with four kills on 18 total attacks. Alexandria Douglas was able to add three to assist in the offensive strategy of MVSU.
 
Brooklyn Hudson dominated the court, tallying nine assists. Hudson and Jaime Polk each recorded one service ace. Sydney Robinson twisted and turned to record 16 digs, while Barnes added nine.
 
The Devilettes finished with 14 kills and 80 total attacks and 14 assists. The team also completed the contest with 35 digs.
 
"We're a young and talented team. We will continue to grow from today," stated Coach Hunter.
