Devilettes Host Texas Southern

ITTA BENA, Miss. - In their second home game the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State took on the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University.

The match started with the Devilettes having first serve, however the 20-minute rally ended with the Lady Tigers holding the advantage, winning the contest 25-11.

In the second set Mississippi took the floor by storm. MVSU's Megan Jones and Brianna Watkins worked in tandem to block multiple attempts at the net from Texas Southern. Unfortunately the Lady Tigers moved ahead on the points by unforced errors from the Devilettes.

A kill by Marissa Chalmers brought the crowd to their feet spurring Mississippi Valley on an impressive rally during the second. A massive block by Cynthia Richardson, knocked the Lady Tigers off balance sent them scrambling out-of-bounds in an attempt to keep the ball in play.

Texas Southern's blocking duo Lauren Torres and Kali Fluke were the key point gainers for the Lady Tigers during the set. The second set score was 25-10.

In set three, the MVSU blocking duo of Richardson and Chalmers were fueled by sheer skill and adrenaline because their blocks were well placed and precise.

In the end the Lady Tigers took the contest in three straight sets. With this being their first meeting this season, the Devilettes will cool their fires until they meet again.

Mississippi Valley will take on Prairie View A & M on Sunday, September 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the R. W. Harrison Complex.
