MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Devilettes volleyball had a rough day on the court, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Lady Hornets of Alabama State University,
 
The opening two sets completed with the same score of 25-23, however the final set proved to be the Devilettes' Achilles heel, as the final was 25-16.
 
In the first set, Alabama State had first serve, however a will place kill by Megan Jones forced a side out. On the serve by Kalin Barnes, ASU tied the score at one for another side out. The set continued along the same vein for the remainder of the contest with the Lady Hornets coming out with the edge.
 
The second set opened with a two-point advantage for Alabama State. Mississippi Valley closed the gap, only to have ASU widen it once again. Down as much as 8-3, the Devilettes scorched their way back into the contest but were unable to complete the rally for the set.
 
To start the third set, MVSU kept the contest close but the Lady Hornets were able to walk away with the set and the match.
 
Barnes paced the offense with 10 kills and five errors on 35 total attacks. She also added 15 digs, four assists and one block assist. Brooklyn Hudson tallied 24 assists to aid the Devilettes' offensive unit; she also chipped in one block assist and four digs.
 
Mississippi Valley travels to Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A & M University. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1.
