JACKSON – Mississippi Valley's Delta Devils entered the contest against the Jackson State Tigers on a high note, after handing the Texas Southern Tigers their first conference loss. The contest did not end the way Mississippi Valley envision, as they dropped the contest 83-68.
The atmosphere in the Lee E. Williams AAC was throbbing with excitement as both teams entered the court. TaJay Henry got the ball to rolling, literally, as he pushed past defenders for two. The contest got hotter as the two teams battled back and forth; forcing fans to their feet with anticipation.
With players gliding through the air, making baskets from every angle of the court, it's amazing the score was only 33-30 at halftime; in favor of Jackson State.
Mississippi Valley's fans were on edge, waiting to see if Isaac Williams would nail the 14-points needed to reach 1000 career points, he finished the game with six. He needs eight points to reach the milestone.
In the second, the fans for the Tigers erupted as their players began to rain down baskets from the three-point line. With the time running, MVSU called timeout to give the Delta Devils' defense a chance to reboot. Mississippi Valley's baskets started landing, enabling them to start a rally. The three point shooting by JSU prevented the Delta Devils from taking back the contest.
Despite the disappointment, Mississippi Valley will shake off the loss and shift their focus to the Tigers of Grambling State University. The two are slated to compete on Monday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Grambling, Louisiana.
