ITTA BENA - Mississippi Valley State grinded out a five-set loss over Jackson State, dropping the contest 3-2.
In the first set of the competitive match, the Devilettes showed extraordinary offensive efficiency. Â With Kailin Barnes delivering most of the points and Nadia Crawford putting up a huge surplus of digs, and assists. There was a total of eight lead changes in this set, and Mississippi Valley came out on top with 28-26 victory.
In the second set, the Devillettes were outpaced by the overwhelming offensive strategy of Jackson State, 25-15. The match was 1-1, entering into the third set.
In the third set, The Lady Tigers displayed a large amount of energy. Jackson State made sure to secure their win with plenty of offense but also showed defensive strength, stopping Mississippi Valley's rally late in the set, making it 1-2.
In the fourth set, the Devillettes once again surged through the Lady Tiger's defense to tie the game 2-2. Mississippi Valley proved to be dominant offensively and continued their run through most of the fourth.
In the fifth and final set, the Devilettes blasted through the Lady Tigers defense with a 7-0 run but ultimately fell 15-13.
Barnes finished with a double-double, with 20 kills and 23 digs. She also added one ace during the contest. Taylor Selfridge tallied 10 kills and two aces. Tylia Dixon added five kills and two blocks. Joilyn Azore scored four blocks and one ace. Jamie Polk and Jessica Bell were phenomenal in their respective categories. Polk finished with 31 assists, while Bell added 31 digs.
