MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Mississippi Valley was poised to take the victory; however a taxing weekend was extended when their contest against Grambling State went five sets.
The Devilettes took the opening set, 25-18, but dropped the second 25-13. MVSU grabbed a 2-1 advantage with a 25-17 third-set victory, however the Lady Tigers surged back and won the fourth set, 25-12. Grambling State took the match with a 15-11 win in the fifth.
Kalin Barnes led the way for Mississippi Valley State (6-23, 4-10) with 11 kills and 15 digs. Jaime Polk registered 24 assists, while Brianna Watkins added 11. Jessica Bell paced the defense with 30 digs, and Taylor Selfridge chipped in with 18 to go with six kills and four blocks.
