LORMAN - The Devilettes volleyball traveled to Lorman, Mississippi, to square off against the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University, defeating them in straight sets (3-0). The set scores were 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16.
The Devilettes remained calm and demonstrated excellent team work to gain the victory over the Lady Braves. MVSU outpaced ASU in points, 46.0 to 32.0 and 37 to 27 in kills.
Mississippi Valley's rotation showed supremacy in the assists, points and digs categories. With 26 assists, Jaime Polk provided the glue to keep the Devilettes' offense operating smoothly. Kalin Barnes led the team with 10 kills, while defensively Taylor Selfridge, Nadia Crawford and Jessica Bell delivered a phenomenal 12, 11 and 10 digs respectively. Selfridge proved herself as a force with seven kills, one ace and two blocks. Jailyn Azore also added eight kills to pace the Devilettes.
MVSU will host the Lady Tigers of Jackson State on Thursday, October 12 at 6:00 pm.
