AKRON – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State faced off against the University of Akron Zips on Saturday, December 15. With a score of 81-63, the Zips were able to capture the contest.
It was a tale of two halves in the James A. Rhodes Arena in Akron, Ohio. In the opening half, the Delta Devils were outpaced 42-25 by Akron. The first started promising on a layup by Emmanuel Ejeh at 19:41 to take MVSU up 2-0. The Delta Devils were able to hold the Zips scoreless until the 18:06 mark, where Jimond Ivey knocked down a three-point basket.
Mississippi Valley shot just 33.3 percent in the opening half, as they landed 9-27 baskets. MVSU didn't fare well on three-pointers in the first 20-minutes of play, shooting 16.7 percent (1-6).
The second half was a completely different situation. Mississippi Valley reentered the court with determination and fire flashing. The Delta Devils led the Zips on a chase that ended with a second-half score of 38-39, in favor of Akron.
MVSU improved on their field goals, shooting for 48.9 percent. The one-point margin from the second and the 17 from the first, allowed the Zips to close the contest with an 18-point victory.
Dante Scott led the Delta Devils with 14-points, seven-rebounds and two assists, while Jordan Evans added 12-points and two steals. Emmanuel Ejeh finished with seven rebounds and six-points for Mississippi Valley.
On December 18th, the Delta Devils will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to face the Grand Canyon University. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 pm.
